A few months into the business, I saw I needed more skill in sales and marketing.
Why did I need to learn to sell?
I had acted on the word God gave me. I posted the services I could offer, and I picked up a couple of jobs.
After a short time, I saw the gap. What God asked me to build was bigger than what I could do currently.
To fulfill the vision, I needed a higher skill in sales and marketing myself.
So after several months of working on it, I prayed a simple prayer. “Teach me how to sell.”
How did God answer?
He taught me how to do sales and marketing. Then He leveled me up.
He didn’t teach me just enough to get by. He grew me so I could offer greater things to the people He called me to serve:
- Kingdom business owners
- Kingdom entrepreneurs
- Churches and ministries that care about Great Commission results
I think those greater things are what He wanted for them in the first place. It was His dream for them. I just had to learn enough to carry it.
What did learning look like?
An anointing came on me to learn, to do and to see results.
- I’d learn something.
- I’d do it.
- I’d see the result.
The results came almost as fast as I learned. I say almost, because sometimes it took me two or three tries to get it right.
That part matters. The anointing didn’t skip the work. I still had to do it, and sometimes do it again.
Where did I learn it?
I went to work for a Christian company that sold services door to door. It was all about funding soul winning at their church.
That’s where I learned sales. Not because they taught me directly. They didn’t have a training program at the time.
They created an environment where I could learn. The learning curve was steep.
So I had to go find resources on my own. I studied. I practiced. I learned sales well enough to sell and earn a pretty decent amount of money from it.
What happened next?
After a year in sales, I was promoted into marketing.
The company didn’t have a marketing department. So I got to build one from the ground up. That’s where my marketing skills were perfected, and where I saw the power of proper marketing.
